Immune + Qi Boosting Raw Cacao Truffles

These medicinal treats are super simple, delicious, and packed with adaptogenic powerhouses, Chaga and Cordyceps. Both herbs are known for their immune-boosting, spirit calming, and longevity promoting capabilities.

What is an adaptogen anyway?

Adaptogens are a small category of herbs that are used to improve the health and functioning of your adrenal system, the system that’s in charge of your body’s response to stress.  They’ve been used for centuries in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. Due to their ability to reduce anxiety and fight fatigue, they’ve be gaining popularity in the West.

Raw cacao is rarely recognized for its medicinal properties, but considered more often as simply an ingredient in high-end chocolate cookies, candies, and baked goods. However, pure raw cacao is a superfood that’s packed with antioxidants, a healthy dose of magnesium, and other phytochemicals that regulate blood pressure, lower high cholesterol, and scrub away arterial plaque, promoting cardiovascular health.


OK, now for the recipe:

(makes 15 truffles)

  • 1 cup raw cacao butter
  • 1 cup almond butter
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 TBP coconut butter or cocnut oil ( I use coconut butter )
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1 1/2 TBP Chaga powder
  • 1 1/2 TBP Cordyceps powder

Put a bowl over a pot of boiling water and melt the cacao butter and almond butter together. Once they’re both in liquid form, remove from heat and add maple syrup and vanilla extract, mix until combined. Add in the chaga, cordyceps, cacao powder, and pinch of salt. Mix until smooth and creamy. Allow the mixture to chill in the refrigerator for about 2 hours. Using a tablespoon, round the mixture into balls and roll in your favorite coating. Below are the coatings I used for this batch, plus some other ideas.

  • Crushed pistachios
  • Unsweetened coconut and chia seeds
  • Cacao powder, cinnamon, orange peel

Other ideas… matcha, gogi berries, crushed almonds, raw cacao nibs.
